I had so much fun last night decorating Fran Drescher’s show for her Christmas show which airs Friday December 17th on Fox at 2pm. She had great guests including Wayne Brady from The Price Is Right. I was showing how to decorate your holiday table on a budget. Also my lovely chef Jennifer Naylor was doing holiday food. Don’t miss the show. I have to say the stars of the show were my fabrics!!!!!
My first trip to Australia was a couple of years ago when I was invited to go to Melbourne to be a Keynote Speaker at Furnitex. A furniture fair. I was taken aback at how well my textiles and design sensibility went down. I was approached by various people for representation. My latest trip to lecture for the same group but this time in Sydney coincided with the opening of The Kathryn Ireland Showroom in Melbourne. Tigger Hall Designs is located 720 High Street, Armadale, Melbourne. We showed at Decoration & Design a three day design fair in Darling Harbour. The jet lag from Los Angeles really not so bad. I stayed at the Blue Hotel right on the water and the high light of each day was taking a water taxi to work. I loved Sydney. The place the people. If you put California and England in a blender it would spurt out Australia. At the weekend I went with my old girlfriend of way too many years, Pru McCloud to her family’s cattle ranch near Canberra. We drove for 4 hours and in that time we went through the English country side, Wiltshire, Dorset, got to Santa Barbara and ended up at St Ynez. It was mid summer to our winter. I fell in love with the architecture, The homesteads with their corrugated iron roofs. The food wherever I went was fantastic.
From Sydney I flew to Brisbane to do a book signing at Black & Spiro for Anna whose blog is inspirational. Her shop is dedicated to color, so I felt at home. Australia has lacked color or so I was told by everyone for some time but that is all changing. From Brisbane I flew to Melbourne for the showroom opening. What a dream to arrive 30 minutes before your flight and not have to de robe to go through security. The showroom is across the road from Brunswick and a bunch of other decorating stores.
It was a great trip and am looking forward to returning “Down Under”
